Treatments We Provide
We use the most up-to-date evidence based practices and treatments and follow best practice guidelines. Tall Tree focuses on treatment that works, because we recognize you don't have time or money to waste on ineffective and unsupported treatments.
Cognitive (thinking) issues following concussion are very common and include memory and attention issues, slowed processing, difficulties with word finding and reading, trouble learning, fatigue and mental fog (and other issues). Our OTs help screen for functional cognitive issues after concussion and develop a cognitive rehabilitation program to overcome them. For more serious cognitive issues, we will help you to find a qualified neuropsychologist for more help.
PHYSIOTHERAPY AND MANUAL THERAPY
Many other physical issues come along with concussion like whiplash or neck injury and pain which often look very similar to concussion symptoms. Our PTs will help to address these issues through a physical rehabilitation program and manual therapies as needed.
EXERCISE BASED INTERVENTIONS
Active approaches to concussion are supported by current evidence. Our PT and Kin will develop an sub-symptom exertion-based program to address concussion symptoms and progress you back to full physical activity.
VESTIBULAR (BALANCE) REHABILITATION
Vertigo, dizziness and balance issues can occur after a concussion. Our PT will provide vestibular rehabilitation to address these issues
VISION / OCULOMOTOR REHABILITATION
Vision issues are relatively common after concussion and cause feelings of dizziness, headache and trouble reading and dealing with visual stimulation. Our OTs will look for vision issues and develop a vision rehabilitation plan with you to address. If you’re having more serious visual changes, we will help refer you to a neuro-optometrist who specializes in the area of vision therapy.
PSYCHOLOGICAL (MOOD AND EMOTIONAL) SUPPORTS
Concussions (and related symptoms) can affect mood and cause psychological changes like irritability, frustration, anxiety and depression. These are common challenges after injury. We have a clinical counsellor on staff to support you with these issues, and our whole team integrates a biopsychosocial approach to rehabilitation which takes psychological changes into consideration.
